AHIP Foundation

The AHIP Foundation is a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization furthering the educational, charitable, and research goals of AHIP.  The Foundation, which is headquartered in Washington, DC, seeks to build on the health insurance plan industry’s dedication to innovation and advances in care delivery. The Foundation strives to create, support, and enhance programs in health insurance plans which will improve quality, effectiveness, and value in health care through research, education, information sharing, and other activities which strengthen and reward exemplary practices by individuals and organizations. AHIP helps to bring about deep and abiding improvements in the health care system by ensuring that the best health care practices are understood and disseminated to a wide audience.

The Foundation’s goals are to:

    • Increase the application of evidence-based medicine
    • Provide substantive performance measures and quality improvement
  • Increase the industry’s ability to serve diverse populations
    • Aid in the training and development of minority health plan managers
    • Develop and support of programs targeted toward minority populations
  • Build community partnerships between plans and other stakeholders
  • Provide information which will empower patients to participate in their own care and choose the most effective means of treatment

Professional Development Programs
The AHIP Foundation is committed to the development of the next generation of health insurance plan leaders. Through its Forces of Change program, as well as its year-long, post-graduate professional development programs—the Executive Leadership Program, the Executive Leadership Program for Medical Directors, and the Minority Management Development  program—the Foundation seeks to support companies in cultivating a workforce that advances the health care industry.

Enormously successful in advancing the careers of the industry’s most promising individuals, these programs have helped hundreds of health insurance professionals take that next important step in their professional development.

AHIP Foundation’s and Harvard School of Public Health’s Forces of Change Executive Leadership Series is a program that identifies the most powerful forces affecting the health care industry. It uses real world examples and arms attendees with the strategies and tools to ensure that their organization is positioned to create a sustainable competitive advantage. Led by David A. Shore, the program combines academic rigor and practical applications for health insurance plans and focus on influences of other industries, including analysis and solutions that surpass the scope of most health care discussions.

Attendance for the Forces of Change Program is strictly limited to graduates of AHIP’s Executive Leadership Programs (ELP) and member health insurance plan CEOs and their senior leadership teams.

The Executive Leadership Program (ELP) and the Executive Leadership Program for Medical Directors (ELP-MD) programs are designed exclusively for health insurance plan executives and medical directors. The programs’ combination of mentoring, classroom sessions, and site visits provide health insurance plan professionals with the strategic management techniques needed to become tomorrow’s industry leaders. The Kellogg School of Management at Northwestern University serves as the programs’ academic partner and setting for one of the academic sessions.

The Minority Management Development (MMD) Program focuses on the training of talented middle managers who are the rising stars in their organizations. AHIP Foundation’s academic partner, Johns Hopkins University (JHU) and their Carey Business School, have customized a management program that provides health insurance plan professionals with the tools necessary to ascend to senior-level positions—a critical step in an individual’s career.
